192 arms deposited

SHILLONG, APR 1: Altogether 192 arms were deposited in the office of South West Garo hills district SP till March 31 after an order was issued by the district police to deposit arms by the license arms holders of the district.

With the Lok Sabha elections slated for April 9 for the Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats, the South West Garo hills district police have stepped up operations along with the para military forces like the CRPF and BSF video surveillance nd flying squad teams to maintain law and order during the entire election process and to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the district.

Forty-seven persons from across the district have been bound down under sec 107/109/116 Cr.PC, while there are three non-bailable arrest warrants pending.

The police and the flying squad teams have also detected and seized approximately 510 litres of country-made liquor and 20.15 ml of IMFL liquor during their search operations up to March 31.- By Our Reporters
