SHILLONG, APR 6: West Garo hills District Election Officer (DEO) Pravin Baskshi warned on Sunday that stringent action will be taken against those polling personnel who fails to report for election duty.
Bakshi said that it has come to the notice that some polling personnel did not report for their duties on April 6 and when contacted made flimsy excuses for not reporting.
Baksi warned, “Unless circumstances involve major and unavoidable illness necessitating hospitalization – no exemption can be given for failure to report for election duty. Those absenting shall attract penal sections of Representation of People Act necessitating issuance of warrants against the defaulters and prosecution under relevant sections of electoral laws.”
In the case of such defaulters notices are being served by police, Baksi informed.- By Our Reporter
