SHILLONG, AUG 24: In his first ever cabinet reshuffle after he was sworn in as Meghalaya chief minister for second term on March 5, 2013, Mukul Sangma shocked many in political circle by dropping health and family welfare minister AL Hek besides deputy chief minister Rowell Lyngdoh on Thursday.

In their place Sangma has elevated former government chief whip RV Lyngdoh and assembly speaker MM Danggo as cabinet ministers.

Sangma met Governor V Shamuganathan in the Raj Bhavan on Thursday evening and submitted the list of his new ministers. RV Lyngdoh and MM Danggo will be sworn in on Friday at 11.30 am at the Raj Bhavan.

Though there was whisper in the secretariat and political circle that deputy chief minister Rowell Lyngdoh was going to be axed from the cabinet, nobody had even dreamed that Hek too would be dropped. Many perceived Hek as close to chief minister Mukul Sangma.

Before the chief minister went to the Raj Bhavan, Rowell Lyngdoh and AL Hek had submitted their resignations to the chief minister to pave way for the induction of RV Lyngdoh and MM Danggo into the cabinet.

After meeting the governor, chief minister Mukul Sangma said this exercise should be seen as a normal with good intent to ensure grooming of leaders for the future of the state.-By Our Reporter
