SHILLONG, FEB 12: A Chinese grenade was planted by miscreants on a Congress supporter’s vehicle at Lower Mawprem under West Shillong constituency here on Monday.
SP (City) Spill Thamar told journalists that the explosive was confirmed to be a Chinese grenade by a team of bomb squad who was immediately deputed on receiving of information.
The incident took place at around 11.30 am.
The grenade was kept by miscreants on spare tyre of the Scorpio (ML 05F 2927) belonging to Michael Pakyntein while it was parked at his residence, Thamar said.
Pakyntein is a strong supporter of Congress nominee from West Shillong Mohendro Rapsang.
Asked, the SP said that thorough investigation will be conducted to nab the culprits behind the incident.
“We will investigate whether the incident is link to the coming elections and also look into the involvement of militants,” he said.
Admitting that the constituency has been identified as critical, the SP said that police are taking up precautions and will intensify patrolling.
