SHILLONG, MAR 2: Cleaning our city campaign was held at Iewduh parking lot 0n Monday under the slogan, “Come and Join Hands in keeping our City Clean – Unity is Strength”. The programme was initiated by the North Shillong Welfare Development Society.

Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, graced the occasion as chief guest, home minister and local MLA Roshan Warjri, , East Khasi hills SP M. Kharkrang, , local headmen, the myntri, school students and many others were also present.

Warjri highlighted the importance of cleanliness and how it can affect the well being of the people. She called upon one and all to work together and play a part in keeping the town clean. She also encouraged the members of the society to work towards their aims and aspirations. “The government will extend all support to the society in achieving their desired aims and objectives”, she added

Lyngdoh lauded the sweepers for their dedicated service and highlighted on the respect that the public need to give back by keeping the city clean. She further stressed on the importance of public support in order to make the mission a successful one.

Commenting on the illegal vendors along the pavements, Lyngdoh said that it’s against the law and punishable. She also expressed the need of the involvement of not only the school children, but also the women folk and the youth at large in order to make the city clean.- By Our Reporter
