SHILLONG, APR 25: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma assured that the state government would soon implement the 100% salary enhancement for all adhoc teachers even as he would convene the meeting of the state Cabinet next week.

The assurance was given to a delegation of the All Meghalaya Adhoc Upper Primary Teachers’ Association (AMAUPTA) on Tuesday.

Addressing newsmen after meeting, AMAUPTA president BR Thabah said, “He (CM) had assured us that the government will ensure that all adhoc teachers will get 100 per cent enhancement in their salary.”

“The CM also informed that he would immediately convene a meeting of the Finance department and the state Cabinet would also held its sitting to discuss on the matter next week,” he said.

Thabah however said that the CM could not give any assurance as to from which year the salary enhancement is likely to be effective.

Stating that the recent 100 % salary hike for secondary adhoc teachers was with effect from September 1, 2016, he said, “We would also expect the state government to grant the same benefit to primary and upper primary teachers.”

At present, according to the president, there are over 4000 primary and upper primary teachers in around 1026 adhoc schools, who are surviving with a meager monthly salary of Rs 8000.
