Congress lodges complaint against BJP’s ‘malicious’ advt

SHILLONG, FEB 20: The ruling Congress party today lodged a complaint against the publication of alleged “malicious” advertisement by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) even as it sought action be taken against the party’s office bearers.

In a letter to the chief electoral officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor on Tuesday, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president James Lyngdoh said, “Please take steps to stop the publication of such advertisement and bring to book the printer as well as the office-bearers of the BJP who have issued the same for publishing.”

Terming the advertisement as malicious, he informed that the same was published on February 18 and February 20 in two local dailies. “It (advertisement) was in a very bad taste, warranting criminal prosecution under section 499 & 500 Indian Penal Code,” he stated.

The Congress party in the complaint also expressed surprise that the advertisement has escaped the attention and scrutiny of the Returning Officer/Deputy Commissioner under the Election Code of Conduct.

In a statement issued on this regard, the MPCC general secretary Sanjay Das said that the party also condemned the spiteful acts of the BJP who have no presence in the state and who are trying every trick in the book to make their presence felt by such malicious acts and back door entry in Meghalaya.

“We strongly believe that the BJP will not be able to mislead the people of Meghalaya with falsehoods and utter lies,” he said.

He said that the whole country has seen how the BJP PM Narendra Modi has fooled the people of India with lies upon lies at every election campaign about bringing back black money from abroad, about containing price rise, about giving 2 crore jobs to youths every year. What happened to all those promises of Mr Modi?

“And now they are trying to use derogatory advertisements because they have no option but to face defeat at the hands of the Congress Party. Their only advantage is that they have hoards of ill gotten money from their business partners. We all know where they get money to pay for their big advertisements and their publicity campaign. Their financiers are all tainted people who are looting the country. Some of them have escaped abroad when they are exposed of their scams,” Das said.

Meanwhile, the MPCC also maintains that the BJP cannot keep on fooling all of the people all of the time and that their days at the Centre are numbered.
