SHILLONG, APR 24: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) today said the Congress party would come back to power and predicts that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not be able to open an account in 2018.

“The people of Meghalaya have full faith in the Congress Party and Congress will come back to power in 2018 and Dr Mukul Sangma will continue as the Chief Minister,” MPYC president Richard Marak said.

Addressing at state executive meeting held at Congress Bhavan here, Marak said, “The BJP will not open an account in the next Assembly election.”

Condemning the recent statement made by the Assam finance minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, he said that Sarma’s comments are an insult to the people of Meghalaya and we strongly condemn it.

“These comments only show him and his party’s desperation. Just because he himself could not fulfill his own aspirations of becoming the Chief Minister of Assam, he diverts attention from his own shortcomings by making unsavory remarks at someone who was once a colleague and a batch mate in the INC,” he added.

He further suggested Sarma to concentrate in his own constituency and the state he represents.

Earlier in his statement, the BJP leader from Assam had predicted the downfall of the chief minister Mukul Sangma, who he alleged was responsible for the under development of the state.

Strongly defending the chief minister, Marak said, “It is public knowledge the visibility of the developmental projects in the state during his tenure. New districts, subdivisions, C & RD Blocks, police stations. We have the best roads. Initiatives are being taken on Medical and engineering colleges. These are just a few achievements of the Congress led MUA government.”

He claimed that Dr Mukul Sangma had delivered more than he promised.

Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by IYC national secretary i/c Sarifa Rahman, PT Sawkmie, MDC, Mawlai Constituency, KHADC, and Tura Lok Sabha Youth Congress Presidents, District Youth Congress Presidents and other office bearers.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the programmes conducted assembly wise, appointments of new office bearers in the state, district and assembly levels.

Former President of GSU Khasi Hills Zone Saljrang G Momin formally joined the MPYC and was inducted as Secretary in the state committee.

Andrew Shullai, MDC, Jowai Constitutiency, JHADC, was also inducted as a secretary in the state committee. Phazmon Dkhar, MDC Wapung Constituency, JHADC, was also inducted as a secretary in the state committee.

Among other things, election preparedness was also discussed.
