Digital week in SWK hills

SHILLONG, JULY 3: As part of a weeklong programme launched by the Prime Minister of India, the South West Khasi Hills district administration organised Digital India Week at the multipurpose hall in DC office complex.

The programme was attended by a large number of people, ngos, college and school students from the district and district officers.

Addressing the gathering, Meghalaya deputy chief minister Rowell Lyngdoh spoke highly of the farsightedness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiative to make India a digitally country empowered society and knowledge economy where common people will be equips with the advancement of Information Technology.

This, Lyngdoh said will help people to have an access to Information Technology and in returned make life easier to collect information and their requirements by a simple click of a computer mouse or electronic gadgets.

Lyngdoh, said that any new developments, merits and demerits walk side by side. He, therefore, warned the youths especially students about the danger of misusing Information Technology which might lead them to a problem.

Others who spoke were R. Lyndoh, Deputy Commissioner, Rajib Bhatacharjee, District Informatics Associate, NIC Mawkyrwat, Kevin Gordon Chyne, IT Manager DRDA, Mawkyrwat and Km. D Kharshiing, District Nodal Officer for DIW, who also preside over the function. The highlights of the day were inauguration of a smart Classroom at Maharam Higher Secondary School, a warrior dance by the Seng Khasi Nonglang and a self composed on Digital India presented by D.
