The series of agitational programme against the government will be announce during the upcoming public meeting to be held on May 29, HYC organizing secretary Nickson Dohling told reporters on Tuesday.

He informed that the public meeting will be held at the venue where the former KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum has been holding his indefinite hunger strike for the past 10 days now.

In view of the proposed public meeting, the HYC has also announced a one-day shutdown of all educational institutions including schools and colleges in and around the Shillong city on May 29.

“This is to allow all the students to come and participate in the public meeting,” Dohling said while appealing to all concerned including headmen, political parties and ngos to attend the meeting.

He also said, “We want in the name of indigenous community, that a unanimous voice should come out and that is to demand for immediate passing of VAB to ensure that the traditional heads will get back their powers.”

The decision was also taken after the HYC has been conducting meetings in different parts of city and outside to sensitize the people about the importance of the VAB.
