HYC releases documentary film

SHILLONG, JAN 10: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council today released a documentary film entitled as “laws to protect the rights of indigenous people” as part of its Save Hynniewtrep Mission to demand implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and other laws in the state.

The Council also announced its campaign against the ruling Congress and other political parties – which refuses to include its 14-point of demands in their respective manifestos – through social media ahead of the Assembly polls.

Addressing on the occasion, HYC general secretary Robertjune Kharjahrin said that the over 2-hour long documentary film will help make people of the state aware on the demands of the Council for strong anti-influx laws.

These include the implementation of the ILP, residential permit for immigrants/visitors, work permit, trading and business permit for non-tribal, a concept of must vote in their place of origin and others, he said.

“This is part of our Save Hynniewtrep Mission as it is necessary for the people of the state to understand the importance of having such laws in place,” Kharjahrin said.

He informed that film will also be uploaded in the social media (Youtube.com) and will also be shown by local cable operators.

Asked, the HYC general secretary said that the Council would also soon launch its campaign against the Congress and other political parties by using the social media.

“We are preparing short videos to be circulated through social media against these political parties so that people make well informed decision during the upcoming Assembly elections,” he said.

According to him, this will be in addition to the public campaigns that are going to take place in the coming days.

It may be mentioned here, the state government has refused the invitation of the HYC for discussion on the implementation of its 14-point of demands last year.
