SHILLONG,JAN 22:  MC Mary Kom, L Sarita Devi and Pooja Rani are all set to represent India in the upcoming 12th South Asian Games 2016 to be held in Guwahati and Shillong.

The trio emerged triumphant in the final round bouts of their respective weight categories during the South Asain Games Test event and Elite Women’s National Boxing Selection Trial held at the NEHU, SAI Special Area Games in Shillong on Friday afternoon.

While Asian Games gold medalist Mary Kom beat Sarjubala Devi in the fly weight category to claim the SAG spot, Sairta Devi ousted a spirited Soniya (RSPB) in the light weight category. Pooja Rani bagged the honours in the middle weight category beating the famed Aruna Mishra by a unanimous 3-0 decision by the judges.

In the fly weight category Mary Kom bagged the gold medal, followed by Sarjubala with the Silver, and Lalita Gurung and Nikhit Zareen with the bronze.

Nikhit, in fact beat Lalita to claim the bronze medal.

In the light weight category, Sarita Devi took home the Gold, followed by Soniya with the Silver and Meena Kumari and Lal Buatsahi with the bronze.

In the middle weight category, Pooja Rani topped the chart followed by Aruna Mishra with Silver, and Monika and Aarti Bhonsle with bronze medals.-By Our Reporter
