KSU withdraws blockade

NONGPOH, FEB 28: The Khasi Students Union –KSU- North Khasi hills district called off the night road blockade slated for March 2and 3 in the Ri Bhoi district after the state government and Meghalaya DGP assured that 70 percent of their demands will be taken care off.

The union had announced a two-day night road blockade to protest against the state government inaction to meet their demands of setting up two police outpost in village border and act against the Karbi militants and Assam foresters who frequently harassed the border villagers.

However the union met the Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri and state DGP Rajiv Mehta on Friday who assured them that they will take up their demands with the state government to as both of them are not a competed authorities who can decided at their level.

KSU North Khasi Hills district unit president Ferdinald Kharkamni told reporter after the union’s executive committee meeting held at Nongpoh on Saturday that the KSU has entrusted Warji and Mehta to take up their demands  with the government as assured during the meeting on Friday in Shillong.

Kharkamni, however, warned that fails to resolve the union demands they will not hesitate to take a  prolong agitation until the demands are met.- From Our Correspondent
