SHILLONG, JAN 12: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Meghalaya today sought the intervention of the President Ram Nath Kovind into the various problems faced by the state which include the age-old boundary dispute with Assam.
In a memorandum submitted to Kovind through the Governor Ganga Prasad here on Friday, LJP state president Jamil Ahmed said there is a need for the intervention of the Centre and the Prime Minister’s Office for solution to the boundary dispute between the two states.
He also demanded the Centre to initiate peace talks with the different militant groups operating in the state.
The LJP Meghalaya also urged the Centre government to include Khasi, Jaintia and Garo languages in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution of India.
With the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill, 2015 lying pending with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ahmed said that the early passing of the Bill will help the state to preserve and protect the culture, custom and traditions and identity of the Indigenous people.
Meanwhile, the state LJP further demanded the Centre to institute an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on whether the schemes and funds are being utilized properly by the state government for the overall development of the state.
Ahmed alleged that since the inception of the state, the condition of villages have not changed and literally there is no development noticed in rural areas as road condition is bad and there is no health centre in many villages.
According to him, unemployment problem faced by educated youths are on the rise and the economy of the state is badly hit due to the NGT ban on coal mining even as he demanded waving of the loans extended to farmers in the state.
