Lokayukta search committee

SHILLONG, OCT 17: The state cabinet approved the constitution of a search committee for the appointment of chairperson and members of the Lokayukta.  “The state government is committed to complete the process of appointment of Lokayukta  and  members in order to accomplish this the selection committee requires a search committee,” chief minsiter Mukul Sangma told reporters after the cabinet meeting on Friday.

The search committee will compile the members who will be placed before the select committee for consideration for appointment of the Lokayukta and its members. “In order to have this search committee, the rules required has been proposed and cabinet has approved it,” Sangma informed.

On the structure, Sangma  said the search committee will have five members including one chairperson. The term of the search committee will be for a period of  two years.

The search committee chairperson and members will  not be entitled to any honorarium but they will be entitled for sitting allowances at the rate of Rs 2500 for chairperson and Rs 2000 for members besides TA/DA for attending any such meetings, he added.

The cabinet has also approved the proposal for amendment of Meghalaya police Act 2010.  “This is a proposed amendment ordinance,” Sangma said adding that the state security commission will have full time secretary.

Besides the members of the security commission as per the Act 2010 are the chief minister who is the chairperson, home minister as vice chairperson, leader of opposition as member, chief secretary, principal secretary home as members.

The DGP earlier was its member secretary but now DGP will become a member. The commission full time secretary will be drawn from the DGP level rank.- By Our Reporter
