New pay revision for govt employees from Dec: Govt

SHILLONG, NOV 17: The ruling Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) government today announced the implementation of the new pay revision for its employees from December, this year with an increased by 268 per cent.

Addressing newsmen after a more than four-hour cabinet meeting held on Friday evening, chief minister Mukul Sangma said, “The government employees will be receiving the new pay structure starting from next month with effect from January 1, 2017.”

This was after the cabinet’s approval of the report submitted by the Empowered Committee which was tasked to examine the recommendations made by the 5th Pay Commission to enable the state government to implement the new pay revision within this year.

Asked, Sangma said that the salaries of the government employees has increased by 268 per cent and the financial burden involved in the implementation of the new pay revision for the current year stand at Rs 929 crore.

“This will include not only the new pay structure but government employees will also be entitled to get arrears,” he said.

He further informed that with this, the minimum basic pay for Grade A category of government employees will be at Rs 45,000 and also the head of department (HOD) will be at Rs 83,900 which was earlier was at Rs 31,300.

Stating that there has been a substantial increase in the salaries of the government employees, he said that the lowest category of government employees (Grade-IV/D) will not be drawing a basic pay of Rs 17,400 in place of the earlier which was at Rs 6,500 only.

The chief minister also announced that male government employees will also be entitle for parternity leave of 15 days subjected that they have two surviving children while the maternity leave for female employees was increased from 120 days to 180 days.

Keeping in mind the need to ensure government employees are physically fit so they become more productive for the welfare of the state, Sangma said that the government also decided to extend Rs 2000 annual health check-up for all categories of government employees.

He also stated that all allowantes to the government employees also stands increased by different quantum.

Asked on his expectation from the employees, the chief minister said that with the implementation of the new pay revision, the government employees are expected to be more committed and dedicated towards the welfare and upliftment of the state.
