Nurses are a blessing to humanity: Hek

_DSC0178SHILLONG, DEC 6: Having achieved 50 years of service in providing quality nursing education, the School of Nursing, Civil Hospital, Shillong today celebrated its Golden Jubilee in a function held at the Nightingale House, Nursing Training Centre, Civil Hospital, Shillong. The theme of the celebration was “50 glorious years in the heart of health care and mile to go…” Meghalaya Minister for Health and Family Welfare, AL Hek graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while TS Nongkhlaw, DHS (MI) was the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Hek said that trained nurses are a blessing to humanity. Their selfless sacrifice and ability to serve the sick and needy of the state, even in the most difficult of situations is highly commendable. The yeoman service of nurses all over the state has helped improve the quality of care rendered to the sick, he added. Reiterating the commitment of the government to improve health services and make health care accessible to all,  Hek urged the faculty of the Nursing school and the nursing community as a whole to work with greater dedication and with the cooperation of all stakeholders the nursing school may be further improved and upgraded.

In his address, Nongkhlaw, DHS (MI) while congratulating the School of Nursing on its milestone achievement said that the School has come a long way from its humble beginning in 1968. Since its inception, the School of Nursing has produced over 550 capable nurses serving in different parts of the State.

Nongkhlaw urged the teaching faculty to imbibe in the minds of the students that nursing is a noble profession and that nurses should be ready to serve in any part of the State and not only look for urban postings. He also stressed on the need of the teaching faculty to improve their teaching methods so as to ensure that the nurses who pass out from the Nursing School as second to none.

Hek also released the golden jubilee souvenir and cut a cake to mark the occasion. The highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of various pioneers of the School of Nursing who had served the School in different capacities though the years.
