SHILLONG, MAR 31: Downplaying the visible rift within its party, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) however said the issue is small and there is nothing to worry as everything is taken care off.

Taking strong exception to some of the party leaders trying to sabotage the success of their own party candidates in Meghalaya, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had directed the MPCC to neutralize the “saboteurs” to ensure victory of party’s candidate.

“Apparently it ‘looks’ like that the party is in disorder but what we feel it is not in disorder. We are going on very smoothly and there is nothing to worry. Whatever, we still have to set things right here but this is a small issue,” MPCC vice president Oris Lyngdoh told reporters on Monday.

In a letter to the MPCC chief DD Lapang, AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro had said, “You are requested to ensure that these sabotages are nipped in the bud and victory of the Congress candidates ensured at all cost.”

In compliance to the letter of the AICC, Lyngdoh said, “I will assure you that steps are being taken.”

Campaigning by some Congress leaders and workers against their own party’s leaders has worried the Congress high command as it is likely to hamper his victory.

Lyngdoh however said, “This is a family matter because for every issue we always take it up to the high command. Whether big or small or serious or not, this is only a matter of opinion.  But for us it is not a very big issue,  may be for other it very a big issue.”

Responding to a query whether the party has taken any action against the saboteurs, Lyngdoh said, “Not right now but we will sort this out.”- By Our Reporter
