SHILLONG, MAR 24: All the nomination papers filed by eight candidates contesting for the Shillong Lok Sabha elections slated for April 9 were found to be valid.

Scrutiny of nomination papers started at 11 am o Monday

“All papers were scrutinized and found valid,” Returning Officer Sanjay Goyal told reporters after the scrutiny.

The eight candidates who will now wrestle with each others for the Shillong parliamentary seat include – sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh, BJP candidate Shibun Lyngdoh besides five independent candidates including Rev PBM Basaiawmoit.

The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has also fielded candidate Amerington Kharshiing from Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

Independent candidate Denis Siangshai, also the richest candidate from among the eight candidates has also joining the fray for second consecutive time. The last time he had lost the polls.

65-Ivory Shylla, a former president of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha is a lone woman candidate contesting for the Shillong seat.

Meanwhile, the last date of withdrawal of candidature has been fixed on March 26 up to 3:00 pm.- By Our Reporter
