SHILLONG, JAN 25: The Election Commission of India awarded a national award to the state for its Innovative programme and effective partnership embarked by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office and the Shillong Public School.

The award was given in recognition of the effective collaborative efforts of the state election department and the school in undertaking a series of vibrant and illuminative youth oriented programme under SVEEP, in particular the “point to the future” campaigns through campus visits and social media which contributed to a 3.38% rise in enrollment as reflected in the states final published electoral rolls.

Meghalaya CEO FR Kharkongor thanked the Election Commission for the recognition and complimented the entire team of the Election Department ,CEOs office and the Shillong Public School for what he called a “team effort”.

In the context of the ECI’s current focus on empowering young and future voters, he stated that the award would further encourage the Election Department to work in greater tandem under SVEEP, with proactive schools like the Shillong Public school to ensure that all 18/19 year old are  enrolled as this is a pre-election year.
