State needs complete healing: Syiem

JOWAI, DEC 30: KHADC chief Pynshngain N Syiem today said the state needs good leaders and legislators for a complete healing.

“It is high time that people of the state do not rely on just pain killer but should find a complete healing which can be achieved by electing good legislators to the state Assembly,” Syiem said while addressing at a public rally held in Iawmusiang, Jowai here on Saturday.

Organized by the Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF), the rally was part of commemorating the 155th death anniversary of Jaintia legendary freedom fighter U Kiang Nangbah.

Referring to the upcoming 2018 state Assembly elections in the state, Syiem urged the people to make wise decision by electing leaders who are real law makers.

According to him, the root cause of the various problems faced by the state at present is due to the incompetency and inefficiency of the incumbent leaders.

“However, people (voters) are equally responsible for this incompetency and inefficiency of our present leaders,” Syiem, who recently resigned as member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and joined a newly floated People Democratic Front (PDF), added.

On the other hand, the former Congress leader said that the people should also support a strong team (political party) if not good legislator to bring a change in the state. “We need a strong team to lead the state, a team with vision and a mission in order we achieve the change we want to see in the state,” he stated.

Interestingly going beyond its jurisdiction, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) had earlier constructed a bust of U Kiang Nangbah at Moolyngksoo, Tpep Pale in Jowai at a cost of Rs 5.5 lakh.

According to Syiem, there is no boundary for freedom fighter and it is for everyone to acknowledge their selfless contribution towards the future generation.

Meanwhile, tribals in the Khasi – Jaintia hills region of the state today paid rich tribute to the Jaintia legendary martyr U Kiang Nangbah on his 155th death anniversary.

Floral tributes were paid by the different social organizations including political leaders at the various sites where the statue of the freedom fighter was erected – Jowai, Khliehriat and Shillong.

In Shillong, leaders of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) also observed the day by paying floral tributes and delivering speeches at Barik Point where the statue was erected three years ago.
