Students trained for Biodiversity survey in Meghalaya

Students attending a training programme in biodiversity at NEHU

Shillong, Oct 10: Taking the Biodiversity Survey Project in Meghalaya a step forward, the AESI organized three days training programme  for the college students on September 15, 22 and 29 at the NEHU complex.

Students from St. Edmund’s College, Women’s College and St. Mary’s College attended the training programme..

On the first day, the students were briefed about the project and its objective, followed by flora identification training along with finding the density of species in particular area. The training was headed by Mr. Vivek Kumar, Project Director and was accompanied by Dr. Sanjiban Goswami, Board of Directors and also Professor, Dept. Of Botany, St. Edmund’s College and Ms Abanda Wahlang, Asst. Project Director.

On the second day, the students was given fauna identification training which was headed by Dr. B Kharbuli, head of department of Zoology, NEHU and was accompanied by Dr. Gupta,

Students were taken to Animal Specimen Museum in Zoology department NEHU. On the third day the training was headed by Dr. Zahid Qureshi,head of department of Geography,NEHU and was accompanied by Mr. Vivek Kumar, and. Thangpong, project coordinator. Students were trained to use GIS and create 3D terrain maps of the area.

On completion of the three days training Vivek Kumar said that the students were brilliant and have good catching capability .He thanked all the colleges who have contributed in the project by sending their students.

Students are now ready for the field survey which will start from October 13.- By Our Reporter
