TMC leader meets Lyngdoh, second meeting likely

Shillong, Nov 8: Trinamool Congress (TMC) in-charge for north eastern states former Lok Sabha MP Joichan Baxla and other party members met former Meghalaya home minister and Congress leader RG Lyngdoh Thursday forenoon to impress the latter to join and lead the party in the 2013 Meghalaya assembly election.

TMC leaders met Lyngdoh in the latter’s residence and discuss the possibility of him taking up the leadership of the TMC Meghalaya unit. However, according to sources, Lyngdoh did not show much interest either in taking up the leadership role or joining the party.

TMC sources said that the chapter is not closed as the party’s national general secretary and former union minister of railways Mukul Roy who is arriving Thursday afternoon is also likely to meet Lyngdoh and make one last ditch effort to rope him in as the TMC Meghalaya unit president.

Looking towards the north eastern states to expand the party, the TMC has been able to get some of its party men elected to the state assemblies in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and in north India  in UP.

Now with the Meghalaya assembly election schedule to be held sometime February 2013, the TMC is looking to field candidates in all the sixty seats. However, the party is still struggling to find a leader in Meghalaya who is willing to lead the party in the 2013 assembly election.-By Our Reporter
