Villagers lynched abductors

TURA, NOV 26: Two abductors on Thursday were lynched at Kalchengpara village, near Selsella in Meghalaya’s West Garo hills. The two has been identified as – Sanjay R. Marak and Akil Ch. Sangma.

At Kalchengpara village, about 50 kms from Tura, the angry mob told this correspondent that six of them were spotted with a non-tribal person and they launched an attack against the abductors and managed to rescue the victim.

They said that the victim was a daily wage labour from Chibinang area of West Garo hills.

“Seeing the angry mob, they left the victim behind. We followed them and managed to nab three of them from different spots. As they got themselves scattered after they saw the villagers were after them”, said an eyewitness.

Two of them were killed in the rage and one was critically injured.

“We cannot tolerate this people anymore because of them AFSPA will be imposed. They are root of all problems in Garo hills”, echoed an eyewitness at Kalchengpara.

The injured allegedly involved in abduction is undergoing treatment at Tura civil hospital. He has been identified as Champingstone R. Sangma from Rongsai, near Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills.

He has revealed the identity of two others of the three, who are still at large. They are Frithing A. Sangma of Tebronggre village and Nobin B. Marak of Rongram, near Tura.

Police have registered a case against the lynching and launched an operation in the area to nab the three others, who are at large. Locals claim that the abductors had taken the jungle route to bring the victim to the village on foot.-From Our Correspondent
