SHILLONG, APR 10: With all the data now available with the Meghalaya election department on Thursday’s morning, the total turnout for the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats during Tuesday parliamentary election has now jumped up to 69.03 percent. The five districts of Garo hills combine registered 78.13 percent more than that of Khasi and Jaintia hills where it polled 63.58 percent.

The 2014 Lok Sabha poll percentage is higher than that of the last parliamentary election when the total percentage polled was 64 percent.

Mahendraganj assembly constituency polled the highest with 86.40 percent of voters turning out to cast their vote. Williamnagar, the district headquarters of East Garo hills, polled the least with 69.02 voters turning out to exercise their franchise during Tuesday polls.

In Khasi and Jaintia hills that fall under the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency, Khliehriat under the East Jaintia hills district polled the highest with 83.42 percent voters turning out to cast their vote. Pynursla registered the least number of voters with 52.65 percent of electorates casting their votes.

In Shillong city, West Shillong constituency registered the highest turnout of voters with 68.62 percentages of voters casting their votes. Interestingly, Mawlai registered the lowest turnout of voters with 52. 78 percent of the electorates casting their votes.
