SHILLONG, OCT 11: A 22-year-old man was arrested for his alleged involvement in the raping and murder of a minor girl in Ri Bhoi district.
The accused, identified as Iainehskhem Kharsati from Kalapangti village under Mawlasnai police outpost, has confessed to the crime.
According to SP V Rathore, the accused has admitted to sexually assaulting and murdering the child.
The police are currently investigating the case and will chargesheet it within 14 days after completing all legal formalities.
The SP has assured a fast-track trial, aiming to secure a conviction within the next 3-4 months.
The accused will also be enlisted in the National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO), he added.
The body of the minor girl, who had gone missing while returning from school, was recovered on October 9.
The post-mortem examination conducted on October 10, revealed that it was a case of rape and murder.
The police have expressed condolences to the victim’s family and prayed for their strength during this difficult time.
