SHILLONG, OCT 24: Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles Pabitra Margherita on Friday handed over appointment letters to 58 youth during the 17th edition of the Rozgar Mela held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, as part of the nationwide initiative to provide employment opportunities to the youth.

The 58 youths were from across various Central Government departments, including 16 candidates in the Department of Posts, 3 in NEEPCO, 2 in the CRPF, 27 in the Railways, and 10 candidates in State Bank of India.

In his address, Pabitra Margherita recalled attending the 15th edition of the Rozgar Mela at the same venue six months ago and lauded the continuing enthusiasm among the youth of Meghalaya.

“It fills me with immense pride and delight to be here once again. Just six months ago, I attended the 15th edition at this very venue, and it is heartening to see the same optimism in Meghalaya today,” Margherita said.

Highlighting the national impact of the initiative, he added that since the launch of the Rozgar Mela on 22nd October 2022, over one million appointment letters have been distributed across the country, reshaping India’s employment landscape.

“The government’s focus on employment generation and skill development has never been stronger. Initiatives such as the Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme, upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes, and new opportunities under the Skill India Mission are creating pathways for millions of young Indians,” he said.

He further noted that the PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) Scheme alone has generated over 11.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs, laying a robust foundation for India’s industrial growth and economic empowerment.

Encouraging the youth, he remarked, “Each of you present here today represents the strength and potential of India’s growth story. Remember that every small effort counts every role you take up and every citizen you serve becomes a part of India’s story of transformation. Congratulations to all the candidates receiving their appointment letters today, and to the proud parents whose support made this achievement possible.”

The programme began with opening remarks on video by Shri Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science & Technology, followed by a video address from the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, reiterating the government’s commitment to empowering youth through sustained employment and skill-based opportunities.

The event was also attended by senior dignitaries including Sanjiv Ranjan, Director of Posts; K.V.L.N. Murty, Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle; Maj. Gen. Rajesh Kumar Jha, Director (Personnel), NEEPCO; J.N. Tusing, Commandant, CRPF; and other senior officials from various departments.
