SHILLONG, APR 18: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District PS Dkhar has slapped a show cause notice to the leaders of the Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) for allegedly utilizing minors in its recently held rally.
“It was found that your association had utilized minor children (who are not the members) in the rally which is a clear violation of the terms and conditions and thus liable for prosecution under section 188 IPC,” Dkhar said in his show cause to MSSASA general secretary HM Marbaniang on April 13.
According to the DC, there is every likelihood that some unscrupulous elements may take advantage of the situation of disturb public order and if such a situation would have arisen, minors would have been exposed to unnecessary danger.
“Therefore, the district administration after careful examination and after taking note, direct your organization and its members to show cause as to why appropriate action should not be taken against them,” Dkhar said while directing the association to reply within a week’s time.
Meanwhile, the MSSASA general secretary HM Marbaniang while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday said that the minors attending the rally called by the association on April 12, were children of the teachers.
“We had already indicated before the rally that the family members of the teachers will also participate in the rally and the children are part of the family. Moreover, the rally had also passed off peacefully,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that the public rally called by the MSSASA was as a mark of protest against the state government’s failure to release the revised pay of over 12,000 SSA school teachers in the state besides other issues.
