SHILLONG, JUNE 30: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to handover the seized documents relating to the “infamous education scam in appointment of teachers” to the state police.
CJM court judge B Joshi said in an order, “All relevant seized documents shall be handed over to the state police by the CBI after making an inventory of the same and an acknowledgement receipt shall be obtained for the same.”
The order came after Inspector N Thohrem, the officer in charge of Laitumkhrah police station appealed for a direction to the SP of CBI, Shillong to hand over the seized documents pertaining to the recruitment of assistant teachers in Lower Primary Schools which were seized by the CBI.
On June 4 during the hearing, the court decided to hear the argument on behalf of the CBI and the state on the appeal by the state police as it also observed that Meghalaya high court has ordered for investigation of the case by the CBI.
However, during the hearing, counsel for the CBI and the public prosecutor did not object to the handing over of the seized documents to the state police, the order stated.
The court direction follows the a petition filed by two persons including Agnes Kharshiing, the president of the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) with regard to the failure of the police to take action on the FIR filed since July 18, 2011 on the case.
Earlier, the court had also directed Investigating Officer (IO) to file report on the status of investigation as well as directed to speed up investigation. The counsel of the petitioner had also submitted to the court that the FIR which was ordered to be as supplementary FIR to this case was not found on record.- By Our Reporter
