Daryl front-runner for Congress ticket

BLOCKShillong, January 28:  Daryl William Cheran Momin, grandson of the first Meghalaya chief minister late Captain Williamson A Sangma, is the front runner for the Congress ticket for the Tura Lok Sabha seat. Momin is one among the nine Congress aspirants to have applied the Congress ticket for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.

Daryl father Fersen Ch Momin had contested the Tura MDC seat in 1994 and won.

A post graduate from the prestigious St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata and an MBA from Bond University, twenty-six year old Daryl appears to fit the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi vision of young, educated political leader who would take the nation forward.

A senior state Congress leader told this website that Daryl is likely to get the party’s ticket as the State Election Committee (SEC) members found that he is the only one who appears to be having the political edge and the right profile for being the Congress candidate for the Tura seat.

It is learnt that the recommendation of the SEC is tilted towards Daryl and if the Congress high command goes by the views of the SEC, the grandson of late first chief minister of the state.

Daryl names has been submitted to the AICC high command along with the names of Zenith M. Sangma, younger brother of chief minister Mukul M. Sangma, Salmanpara legislator Winnerson D. Sangma, former legislator Adolf Lu Hitler R. Marak, Meghalaya PCC general secretary Richard M. Marak, former bureaucrats Arlene M. Sangma, DK Arengh, Meghalaya PCC general secretary Polycarp Marak and Bijoy Sangma.

The Tura Lok Sabha seat is currently being occupied by Agatha K Sangma, daughter of former Lok Sabha speaker and Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) president Purno A Sangma. – By Our Reporter
