SHILLONG, DEC 11: A 35-year-old Ghanaian national, William Addo Agyei, was arrested by the West Jaintia Hills police for traveling on a fake identity.
According to West Jaintia Hills SP Jagpal Singh, the accused had initially claimed to be Stanley Obayendo, but during re-interrogation, he revealed his true identity.
Agyei, a resident of Kumasi Accra, Ghana, had entered India on a medical visa in June 2025, which expired after three months. Despite applying for an extension, he did not receive a response from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
Recently, he received an email from FRRO instructing him to report to their office or Banaswadi Police Station in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Failing to comply, he sought help from a tout, Frank, who arranged for him to cross into Bangladesh through Meghalaya. However, he was detained by locals and subsequently arrested by the police.
A case has been registered against Agyei for traveling on a fake identity.
