SHILLONG, FEB 18: VPP chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has stated that his party is not rushing into electoral battles, emphasizing that anyone joining the party must subscribe to its principles and ideology.
“To be honest with you, a lot of requests have come to us to field candidates. In my recent visit, I have made it clear that as of now, we are not going to rush because we are very firm in our approach that whoever joins VPP, they must understand the basic principles, the ideology and the philosophy,” Basaiawmoit said when responded to a query if VPP would field candidates for the forthcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) slated to be held on April 10.
He added that VPP is not just a political party, but a movement aiming to bring change in the people’s mindset.
“Unless you fully subscribe to what we believe, we are not going to… because VPP is not only a political party to contest elections, it is a kind of a movement, revolution where we want to change the mind of the people from what we are practicing now to a new difference altogether.”
Asked, Basaiawmoit said, “A lot of requests have come. They have requested me saying we have seen your statement but why don’t you reconsider. At least fielding in some constituencies in Garo Hills. But I told them no, see we have decided from the party that for now we will not rush to any electoral participation.”
