SHILLONG, NOV 7:
Talks between the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners’ and Drivers’ Association (MCTODA) and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar have raised hopes for the release of detained association leaders, but the strike continues.

MCTODA member Lumlang Mawnai said Dhar assured the association of working towards releasing the leaders, including President, and convening another meeting to address issues with cement factories. However, with most members absent, the association is undecided on calling off the strike.

“We’re waiting for our president’s release before deciding next steps,” Mawnai said, adding that the strike will continue till Tuesday. MCTODA has urged the government to expedite the release to prevent traffic disruptions.

The association has pledged to maintain a peaceful protest, with Mawnai stating, “If we continue with the strike, it will be a peaceful one.”
