SHILLONG, OCT 29: The state Cabinet on Wednesday approved the schedule for the preparation of electoral rolls for the conduct of the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), slated to be held next year.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, Cabinet Minister and MDA government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla announced that the government has initiated the process, although the exact date for the elections has not been finalized.
Shylla explained that the government needs to start preparatory steps to ensure the electoral rolls are ready before the elections.
The cabinet has approved the schedule for the preparation of rolls, which includes publishing the draft electoral rolls, filing claims and objections, and finalizing the rolls, he said.
Regarding concerns over non-tribal voters in the GHADC elections, Commissioner and Secretary CVD Diengdoh clarified that the Deputy Commissioners will follow the Autonomous District Rules, which have clear criteria for eligibility.
Diengdoh emphasized that the rules will be followed, and the process of claims and objections will be open to those entitled to vote.
