Meghalaya Governor inaugurates IIT Guwahati’s Abhilasha 2025-26 Phase VI

SHILLONG, FEB 23: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar on Monday graced the inaugural session of Abhilasha 2025–26 Phase VI, a flagship outreach programme of IIT Guwahati’s Design Department, held at U Soso Tham Auditorium.
The Governor lauded IIT Guwahati for extending Abhilasha beyond its campus, saying, “In today’s rapidly evolving world, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential for the youth to excel.”
He advised students to “make a daily journal and track their progress on a daily basis in order to improve in different aspects of life,” and noted the initiative creates awareness about career pathways including National Law Universities, IIMs, and Central Universities.
The Governor encouraged students to “dream big, participate actively, and utilize such platforms to unlock their true potential,” adding that Phase VI reflects a commitment to nurturing creativity and broadening academic horizons for Meghalaya’s youth.
Prof Pratul Chandra Kalita, Head of Design Department, IIT Guwahati, delivered the welcome address and said, “Abhilasha aims to introduce school students to the world of design, innovation, and diverse career pathways… the programme has already benefited more than 5,000 students across Assam and Meghalaya through its earlier phases.”
