SHILLONG, JAN 20: Arts & Culture Minister and BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai, accompanied by the state party president and senior leaders, met Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at his residence in New Delhi requesting the Centre to initiate various cultural schemes in Meghalaya to safeguard the traditional Seng Khasi, Seng Raid, and Songsarek Garo cultures.
“(We) made a request to the minister to initiate cultural schemes in Meghalaya so as to safeguard the traditional Seng Khasi and Seng Raid culture and Songsarek Garo culture,” Shullai said.
Shullai also proposed setting up a cultural heritage traditional market in the Mawlai CRPF camp to showcase the richness of the North East, urging the union minister to visit the area to assess the need, which could boost cultural tourism.
“A cultural heritage traditional market that will showcase the richness of North East needs to be set up in Mawlai CRPF camp. (We) requested the union minister to visit the area to ascertain the need, which shall boost the cultural tourism initiative of the department,” he added.
Additionally, Shullai requested the tourism minister to launch a tourism development scheme in the South Shillong constituency, alongside a ropeway project, to generate direct and indirect employment for locals.
“(We) also requested the tourism minister to initiate a tourism development scheme in South Shillong constituency alongside the ropeway project as it will generate direct or indirect employment for the local populace,” Shullai stated.
The meeting focused on promoting Meghalaya’s cultural heritage and enhancing tourism infrastructure in the state.
