SHILLONG, JAN 21: Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai on Thursday announced that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong will convene a special meeting after Republic Day to discuss infrastructure development issues raised with central ministers.

Shullai told reporters that he has informed chief minister about the meeting of the state BJP delegation led by him with Union Ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, to address concerns like relocating the Dalit Sikh community, implementing building bye-laws, and acquiring defence land for the Shillong flyover project.

He said Singh assured personal initiative to resolve these issues, while Gadkari promised help with land allotment for the flyover.

The proposed flyover from Mahavira Park to Barik Point is expected to ease Shillong’s traffic congestion.

Other discussed issues include cantonment playground development, hawker market construction, and preserving indigenous culture at Mawlai.

Shullai expressed optimism that these issues would be resolved within six to seven months, citing Singh’s request for regular updates.

He also met the Director of Defence Estate to expedite Shillong Cantonment Board’s building bye-laws approval, allowing G+2 structures in the area.
