SHILLONG, NOV 3: In a bid to strengthen its presence in the Garo Hills region, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has formed a dedicated committee to oversee the party’s welfare and identify potential candidates for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.
UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh revealed that the committee is tasked with scouting for interested candidates in their respective constituencies, signaling the party’s proactive approach to the polls.
With the Congress party’s presence in the region, Lyngdoh was asked if it posed a threat to UDP, to which he responded, “Politics is politics, but I don’t see any negative impact as far as UDP is concerned.”
Currently, UDP has one MDC from the region, and Lyngdoh emphasized the significance of elected representatives in effectively serving constituencies.
