SHILLONG, OCT 9: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has demanded the state police to arrest the perpetrators involved in the murder of 7-year-old Kyrshanbor Kharmudai.
“The Voice of the People Party condemns the gruesome, despicable and cowardly murder of an orphan boy, Kyrshanbor Kharmudai. The Party urges the Home Department to seriously investigate the matter and hunt the murderers leaving no stone unturned until they are found and given exemplary punishment,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said in a statement issued on Thursday.
He also expressed anguish that this murder could take place due to the inefficiency of the police department.
“The department has not been responsible enough to ensure safety to the citizens, especially children, by nabbing the alleged attempt kidnappers from different parts of Shillong and the adjoining areas,” Myrboh said while urging “the department to deepen its investigation into the previous homicide at Nongrah to unearth the whole truth and bring the culprit(s) to justice.”
Stating that it is the duty of the government to ensure safety of the citizens, the VPP leader emphasized that successive failures on the part of the government may lead to a situation where the law-abiding citizens may decide to take law into their own hands, a situation which the government should at all cost take steps to prevent.
“The government should be conscious of the larger ramifications of their inability to ensure protection of people’s lives,” he concluded.
