SHILLONG, NOV 3: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has strongly opposed the state government’s decision to terminate the services of adhoc employees appointed against sanctioned posts after 2007.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, VPP president Ardent M Basaiawmoit expressed concern over the government’s Office Memorandum dated 25.09.2025, stating it fails to appreciate the complexity of administration efficiency and employees’ rights.
The VPP argues that adhoc employees appointed after December 31, 2007 have served continuously for over a decade, enabling the government to run its administration. “It is highly objectionable that these employees be terminated and asked to reappear in the competitive examination. It was not their fault that they were appointed and continued in service,” Basaiawmoit wrote.
The party demands regularization of these employees’ services, citing their right to claim parity with previous batches.
“…the party strongly oppose the order of the government to terminate the services of such employees appointed against sanctioned posts. It would be wrong on the part of the government to suddenly wake up in 2025 when the appointments were made 15 years ago. Your action causes emotional and financial stress to the employees. The employees have the right to claim for regularization as their previous batches. We therefore, demand that the services of such employees should be regularized and the government should stop harassing them,” the Nongkrem legislator stated.
The VPP also urges the government to end the practice of making adhoc appointments, fixing responsibility on erring officials.
“The VPP remains committed to good governance, transparency, and accountability,” Basaiawmoit emphasized further.
