SHILLONG, FEB 3: VPP MP from Shillong Dr AJ Syngkon has requested the Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh to intervene into the administrative and academic deficiencies faced by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong.
In a memorandum submitted on Tuesday, Syngkon informed about the institute’s challenges, including the absence of a regular Director, vacant administrative posts, and faculty shortages, which are impacting governance and academic delivery.
“…I would request the Ministry to kindly examine the matter on priority and consider initiating appropriate corrective measures, including the appointment of a regular Director at NIFT Shillong and the time-bound filling of sanctioned administrative and academic posts,” he said
According to him, an institute of national importance like NIFT requires consistent leadership to maintain academic standards and administrative efficiency.
“Strengthening the institutional capacity of NIFT Shillong is essential to ensure that it functions in line with the standards expected of a national institute and fulfils its mandate effectively, particularly in the North Eastern region,” he added.
