46 cattle seized

SHILLONG, DEC 29: The troops of Border Security Force yet again showing alertness on International Border, seized huge numbers of cattle. The BSF troops deployed at Nayabazar, OP Shella and Tuka(East Khasi Hills district) Meghalaya foiled the forced attempt of smugglers and prevented 46 cattle being smuggled to Bangladesh. These areas are frequently being used by cattle smugglers in the greed of high profit and their attempts to smuggle the cattle getting a routine in these parts of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

Prices of cattle have gone up in recent months after the BSF checked the illegal supply channels to Bangladesh as well as huge demand of bovine animals before celebration of New Year. Border Security Force alerts troops to prevent any smuggling or other trans- border crimes when the nation will celebrate New Year. BSF has also sought cooperation of local police to enhance joint efforts against any attempt of criminals/smugglers in hinter land also.

After continuous anti -smuggling drives and putting extra vigil on the border, the BSF has been achieving a great success in countering the cattle smuggling effecting considerable seizure.  The overall seizure affected by BSF troops during last week at International border of Meghalaya was worth more than 18.7 Lacs including 86 cattle and other contraband items.

All the seized cattle handed over to concern department for further legal action.
