Sonia directs Lapang to strengthen party

SHILLONG, JULY 24: Congress high command – the All India Congress Committee (AICC)- has sought a detail report on the overall political situation in Meghalaya and stressed on the need to strengthen the party at the grass root level.

The direction was given by AICC president Sonia Gandhi to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang during a meeting held in her residence at 10 Janpath, New Delhi on Saturday.

The AICC President gave sufficient time to Lapang and had a patient hearing.

“She (Sonia) had instructed Lapang to provide a detail report on the political situation and to consolidate and unite the party,” an MPCC statement said on Sunday.

Assuring that AICC will also explore all the possibility to strengthen the party, the AICC chief also suggested to the MPCC president to give full concentration at the grass root level organization and place workers and officials who can devote maximum time for organization adding that committed workers are to be utilised properly.

Gandhi told Lapang to meet CP Joshi the AICC General Secretary Incharge Meghalaya and said she would talk to Joshi to have thorough discussion with Lapang to dwell upon the guideline and in the way the AICC is thinking on the issue.

Later during discussion, Joshi suggested Lapang to take up certain action in order to revamp, strengthen and unite the party. He also said that the AICC is taking a serious view on the affairs of the party in Meghalaya and will leave no stone unturned to take any strong step when such action is demanded.-By Our Reporter
