BJP blames Cong for communal politics

BJPSHILLONG, APR 6: Turning the table against its arch rival, the Meghalaya unit of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Congress of indulging in communal politics even as it assured to introduce stringent laws to curb inflow of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants into Meghalaya if elected to power.

Meghalaya unit of BJP president KS Lyngdoh said in a statement, “The accusation of various Congress leaders in Meghalaya terming BJP of being a communal party is baseless and unfounded.”

Advising to the Congress to turn the search light within for indulgence in communal politics, Lyngdoh  said on Sunday that the recent example illustrating the “communal politics” the Congress are indulging is the secret meeting of Congress president Sonia Gandhi with Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed  Bukhari.

Lyngdoh questioned, “Isn’t it the grand-old Congress party which had formulated anti-conversion laws in the country?  Isn’t it the Congress government which had passed these laws in Odhisha, Madhya Pradesh and the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1978 that prohibits conversion from one religious faith to any  other.”

According to Lyngdoh, If the BJP is an anti-Christian party or is not secular national party, how did the Christian faithful in Christian-dominated states like Goa or for that matter in Nagaland voted for the BJP candidates.

Referring to Meghalaya, Lyngdoh reminded that the electorates of some assembly constituencies had elected BJP candidates who belonged to the Christian community as MLAs. He questioned his party’s detractors if the late BJP legislator and minister TH Rangad called be termed as anti-Christian.

Lyngdoh said that in his short tenure  as a leader and a minister Rangad served the people of Meghalaya with honesty and sincerity as a true Christian leader.

Taking a potshot at Congress minister AL Hek, Lyngdoh said the party is amazed at the diatribe directed by the Congress legislator AL Hek on his old party which gave him the opportunity to begin his political career. He questioned:”What took Hek so long to realize that the BJP is a communal party when he had won three Assembly elections in a row on BJP ticket.”

Expressing concerns over the inflow of illegal Bangladesh immigrants into Meghalaya, Lyngdoh said, “If elected to power, the BJP will enact stringent laws to curb the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants’ entry into Meghalaya and in the entire north eastern states which is threatening the political and geographical demography of the region.”

Lyngdoh said that the BJP leaders in Delhi have assured leaders of the north east regional party forum to enact a stringent law to tackle the illegal immigrants.

On the rising unemployment problem in the state leading to law and order problem, Lyngdoh promised that the BJP will ensure infrastructure and economic development across the state, especially in the rural areas of Meghalaya to provide self-employment to the thousands of educated unemployed youths.

Coming down heavily on the education job scam in the state, Lyngdoh said that this has affected the career of thousand school children across the state and the party would take this issue as top priority once the NDA government is formed at the centre.

Lyngdoh also said that the BJP has also decided to roll out agriculture programs to boost the economic development in the rural areas of Meghalaya if elected to power at the centre.

Lyngdoh said that the party will eliminate the “middlemen culture” and ensure direct access for the farming community to the market by setting up a special farmers’ cell to facilitate selling of the agriculture and horticultural products.- By Our Reporter
