BJP slams Cong

SHILLONG, OCT 24: The BJP Meghalaya state today challenged Congress leader and Urban Affairs minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh to come out with proof on his allegation that the BJP is going to do away with the reservation quota system for minority and tribals.

“Can he (Lyngdoh) come out with a proof on this allegation – his pessimistic and unregulated opinion and an attempt to spread lies on the issue on reservation policy are not acceptable by the BJP,” BJP state vice president John Anthony Lyngdoh told reporters here.

He said that the minister should state his stand on this statement as it is not only misleading but treacherous that can boomerang if he fails to produce documentary guidelines to support his statements.

According to him, anybody who is aggrieved and deprived of his fundamental rights as enshrined in the constitution, can seek redress from the court to get relieve justifiably.

Stating that the BJP believed in the existing reservation system, Lyngdoh said, “There is no need for its review and those left behind economically should received special care.”

He said that to change a reservation policy, a commission have to be set up, which will then establish a committee, which will study and submit back to the commission, to the government and to the cabinet for approval.

“Then it will be placed or sent to the Houses of Parliament and passed by the both the Houses. What a foolish statement he has given. Do you th ink that people are  fools, no,” he added.

The BJP leader futher stated that it was Manish Tiwari, a Congress spokesperson who felt that the present reservation system needs to be changed adding this is obviously a reference to the Congress party which has not work for the last many, many years.

He also said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had categorically made it clear that there is an attempt to spread lies that there will be change in the reservation policy.

“The Government under PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee stayed for two terms, but there is no changed in the Reservation policy. The BJP has government in several states, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat – but there has been no attempt to alter the policy,” he said.

Lyngdoh said that the BJP state leaders reiterate that Article 16 (4) of the constitution enables provision of Reservation to backwards class of citizens, who are not adequately represented in the state.

According to him, reservation is provided to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes through executive instruction issued from time to time, which has force of law.

Meanwhile, the BJP state leader accused the Congress party of becoming very nervous because they know that by next month, many of its legislators are going to leave the party and this is the reason why they have spread only rumours.

He however said but the BJP is for development and also no discrimination to all sections of the people.

“Who created DoNER ministry? Is it not during NDA government at the centre when Vajpayee was the PM so that development of the entire NE should be at par with the rest of the country,” he said.
