SHILLONG, NOV 21: The sudden decision of Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri to resign on moral ground for the deteriorating law and order situation in Garo hills that also led to the killing of two policemen recently is yet to be accepted by chief minister Mukul Sangma.

Warjri had submitted her resignation on Thursday night as home minister.

Sangma told the winter session of the assembly on Friday, “She (Warjri) has tendered her resignation yesterday . I tried to prevail on her to continue in her office and have not accepted her resignation.”

The opposition Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) had raise the questioned on Warjri resignation on the floor of the assembly during the first day of the winter session.

Sangma, however, insisted that he would like to her to continue as the people of the state stands to gain from her service.
Sangma told the house,“I will talk to her (again) and I will try to convince her to continue as the home minister since she is one of the most dedicated and committed cabinet colleagues.”

Sangma also refuse to divulge the content of Warjri’s resignation letter as he justified saying that as he has not accepted her resignation it will not be appropriate to reveal its content.

Warjri resignation letter purportedly said, “The prevailing law and order situation in Garo hills is in its worst phase where precious lives of both civilians and men in uniform were killed in gun battles.” –By Our Reporter

It is appreciable on the part of Warjri’s decision to resign. She has taken the decision on moral ground. I feel the Chief Minister should have the sense of understanding and accept her decision immediately.

Is it not a ploy on part of the Congress government in Meghalaya to divert the people’s attention from the worsening law and order situation in Garo hills ? Would the resignation solve the problem ?
The minister should have tried living upto the challenge instead of choosing to quit.
