Militant escapes from Tura Civil hospital

escapeTURA, APR 17:  A Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militant escaped from Tura Civil Hospital on Thursday after giving the police a slip.

The militant Brijio M Marak was undergoing treatment at the hospital after he along with another militant Ringrang A Sangma were beaten by an angry mob at Ampati in South West Garo hills district on Wednesday.

The two militants agitated the people of that village for extorting the villagers. After beating them up, both of them were handed over to the police.

Both the militants were undergoing treatment at Ampati community health centre. The doctors on Thursday referred them to Tura Civil Hospital for further treatment.

Brijio M Marak, whose right hand had broken, managed to escape from doctor’s chamber in presence of two Meghalaya police personnel.

South West Garo Hills SP R Muthu said, “The GNLA cadre had gone to the village with an objective of extorting money. The villagers were apprehensive of their intention and thrashed them . Later, the villagers called the police and handed them over”.

Police recovered two mobile handsets, extortion note and photos of GNLA cadres from their possession.  “Police is investigating into the extortion”, Muthu informed.- By Our Reporter
