SHILLONG, JAN 26: In a tragic bus accident, ten people died while twenty one others were injured when when a Hailakandi-bound night bus fell into a deep gorge in East Jaintia hills district, police informed. The accident took place at Tongseng area at around 1.30 am on Tuesday.
The night-super bus bearing registration number AS 24C 2788, which was coming from Guwahati and fell into the gorge, about 100 feet at Tongseng village near Sonapur, East Jaintia hills SP Spil Thamar informed .
He said ten passengers, all males died on the spot. However, four women were among the 21 who were injured during the accident.
“All the injured were first shifted to Khliehriat Community Health Centre (CHC) and later were referred to hospitals in Jowai, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills District and Shillong, ” Thamar informed.
The bodies of the deceased are yet to be identified. According to Thamar, the rescue operation teams are still putting on their efforts to retrieve the bodies.
Officials from the district administration of Hailakandi, Assam are already on their way to Tongseng for identification of the bodies, he informed.-By Our Reporter
