2 arrested with firearm in Ranibari village, Ri Bhoi

Two members of a gang were arrested with a firearm from Ranibari village in Ri Bhoi district on Tuesday.

District police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanao informed that information was received that some miscreants armed with weapons were seen moving near the jungle area of Ranibari village. Immediately IC Rani BOP alongwith staff rushed to the area. While moving inside the jungle area, the miscreants fired upon the police party.

As there were children and women nearby, the police party did not resort to any retaliatory firing but rushed behind the miscreants.

He said during the search operation, 2 people namely Ajit Rabha 18 years and Kavita Rabha, 18 years were detained.

“During preliminary interrogation, both revealed to be members of a gang involved in the theft of Sal trees, bikes, betel nuts etc. The leader of the gang has been identified as Rudra Rabha, who is the step father of Ajit Rabha,” the SP said.

“Further, during the search of the house of Ajit Rabha, a country made SBML firearm was recovered along with gunpowder used for ammunition,” he said.

The SP informed that police are still continuing combing operations in the area to locate the miscreants.

A case has been registered at Khanapara PS as per appropriate sections of law.
