2 KSU activists arrested in Ichamati murder case

Two members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) were arrested for their alleged involvement in the recent murder of two labourers at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills.

The duos were picked up from their respective residents on Monday night.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi on Tuesday said, “Two arrests were made from Sohra last night. However, details we will not be sharing at the moment in the interest of the case.”

The two arrested persons have been identified as Shambor Shati (26) and Meshadap Sohpen and both are members of the KSU South Khasi Hills District.

The duo have been taken to Sadar Police station before production before the court. Both have been remanded to seven days police custody

On March 27, two persons were allegedly beaten to death by miscreants at Ichamati. They have been identified as (L) Esan Singh and (L) Sujit Dutta. Both are labourers working in limestone quarries. Their bodies were found at Ichamati and Dalda respectively.

According to the FIR filed by family members of the deceased victims, the incident took place during an anti-CAA protest in Ichamati.
